Tuesday 23rd June 2009

It's only two weeks now till our big Decades concert and it's taking shape beautifully. The girls still haven't got the words 100% right on a couple of the songs but I'm sure they will get that sorted in good time!! All our pages are now updated and we actually have our own domain name now - http://www.blackpoolyouthchoir.co.uk (go on - try it out!)although for the moment it is still hosted by my website. I will get it transferred over at some point but that takes money and time.

We have a busy couple of weeks ahead - three shows, one at the zoo, our main concert and one at the park - and a picnic at the park afterwards for choir members, whcih should be fun! Check out the Forthcoming Events page for more details.

I am also thinking ahead to plans for next term - but you'll find out all about that in due course!

Monday 9th March 2009

Well, a lot's been going on since I last updated the website. We have some new members; rehearsals are well under way for our main summer concert in July; we have several other gigs booked for the summer; we sang live on Radio Lancashire; we have a committee now who have taken a LOT of work off my shoulders, we have social events planned and it's been quite a busy few months.

We still are able to use Millfield school for the time being but only as long as the drama school continue to book it. It's not ideal though - I would prefer to rehearse somewhere more central. However it is free and I am immensely grateful for that - can't complain!

Tuesday 16th December 2008

Wow - our concert is TOMORROW!! That's TOMORROW!! We have been practising like mad, I have total confidence in all the girls, it's going to be a blast. We have a teeny little article in the Gazette this evening.

I was hoping for something bigger but it'll have to do. I am so excited!

Friday 5th December 2008

Well, an awful lot has happened since I last updated this newsreel. We have been rehearsing madly for our forthcoming Christmas concert, details of which can be found on the 'Forthcoming Events' page. We have Millfield School as a rehearsal venue for the foreseeable future which gives us a little more stability.

There is also the possibility of funding for us to go on tour this summer. We need about twice as many people, more if possible, but if we work like mad over the spring and summer on the Decades concert I am planning, perform it here in Blackpool, then take it on tour in Europe, that would be amazing. But we need talented people and we need funding in order to raise the £400-£500 per person it would need. But that is my plan.

Wednesday 3rd September 2008

OK, there is good news and bad news. The good news is - we have a rehearsal venue!! The bad news is, it's only for September and October so we'll have to find somewhere else after that which can let us rehearse for free. Or get sponsorship - or a grant. But at least we have somewhere to start off with. So we will be holding our first rehearsal at Millfield School on 13th September, 1pm until 3pm. It will be in the Hall, which apparently is right opposite the main door as you go in.

Saturday 30th August 2008

Well, the auditions are over - I get my Saturdays back again. At least, until we start rehearsals! We have quite a good number - I am pleased overall. More is always better but it's quality that counts. And as we get established, we should get more people wanting to join.

So the next job will be sorting out a rehearsal venue - I can't do that till the schools go back next week. Watch this space!

Friday 29th August 2008

I am annoyed.

The article was not in the Gazette yesterday as promised, on the biggest selling night. It was in tonight's edition, but half of the information I told them wasn't in! They left out my address where auditions were taking place, so everyone who was interested either had to ring me or look on here, they left out that I was CRB cleared, and they left out the afternoon audition times - only giving the morning ones.

Anyway, on the plus side, I had quite a few people ring up, and assuming that at least as many again looked on the website for the details instead of phoning, then we should have a good turnout tomorrow, including some old friends who rang me up today.

Wednesday 27th August 2008

Well, the website is almost complete now – I have been working very hard over the last few days to get it set up. Exciting news – we will be in The Gazette tomorrow to drum up some publicity for the last of the audition Saturdays!! Hopefully we should get a good response as Thursday's Gazette is always a good seller because of the jobs. So Saturday should be a busy one. I also plan to send out posters to all the schools in the first week of term to say if anyone missed the auditions but still wants to join they can come along to the first rehearsal and I'll hear them then.

The saga of the rehearsal venue continues! Ideally what I would like is a school somewhere near the centre of Blackpool so it isn't too far for people to travel. It also needs to have parking. My first choice would be Devonshire Road. I also want somewhere that won’t charge us too much – free would be great! But I can't start ringing up schools until they go back.

If I can't find anywhere in Blackpool, Millfield School in Thornton rang me whilst I was on holiday and offered the use of their hall – but it is a long way to go. But at least we do have somewhere. I wasn't able to ring them back as they had broken up while we were away – but I assume the offer still stands.
